Why We Built OpenClass

Years ago, a young woman picked up a catalog from an organization called Open University. Inside were classes on every imaginable topic — taught by real people, held in real places, and open to anyone who was curious enough to attend.

She signed up for a class called "Working Your Way Around the World."

The class was held in a pub. It was packed.

People came to learn. They came with questions. They came because someone in that room knew something worth sharing.

The class was practical, inspiring, and memorable. Years later, she still remembers it.

That's the idea behind OpenClass.

We believe valuable knowledge exists everywhere.

In artists' studios. In gardens. In workshops. In kitchens. In classrooms. In offices. In coffee shops. In community centers. In the experiences people have spent years building.

Not everything worth learning comes from a textbook.

And not everyone with something valuable to teach has a teaching degree.

OpenClass was created to make it easier for people to share what they know — and for others to discover something new.
